The Property Market North of Hitchin

The Property Market North of Hitchin

Firstly, an update on the current Hitchin Property Market

Properties for sale in Hitchin have become incredibly popular, so much so that we have seen all the homes we sell achieving a high number of viewings, followed by multiple offers. In many cases we are pleased to promote the fact that our sales process leads to multiple best and final offers with all sales going over the guide price.

Naturally, this is particularly the case for those houses that are close to highly regarded schools, within walking distance of the town centre and those close to the train station.

With this height of demand, the prices are holding firm and so it has had the effect that people are starting to look a little further outside Hitchin Town itself, in hope that they can find a less competitive market where prices show good value for money. Which brings me nicely on to the slightly more rural areas of North Hertfordshire and Southern Bedfordshire, and in particular the town of Shefford.

Shefford Property Market

One of the small towns that is proving increasingly popular with home movers and new buyers is Shefford, and it’s easy to understand why.

Shefford presents a community packed with character, with many historic red brick and timber frame buildings lining the centre. Purchasers are now considering moving home to Shefford, as a direct alternative to Hitchin. Shefford residents also have the benefit of being able to enjoy the open countryside and pockets of woodland. These are particularly popular for dog walkers as they can follow numerous nature trails or have a bite to eat in local picnic areas.

In addition to all its character feel, Shefford still has a great range of facilities for families moving to the area. All the usual schools, supermarkets, bakery, pubs, and restaurants along with easy access to the main roads to Bedford, that’s only 10 miles away.

Working as estate agents in Shefford, we recently sold a lovely family house. Despite the Shefford property market activity being a little lower than Hitchin town itself, we engaged buyers, providing the vendors with multiple viewings and offers, leading to a best and final offer scenario. The house eventually sold for over the guide price.

We believe this is showing how buyers are now able to achieve a friendly community life and still retain easy access to the main transport links for the commute to work.

It seems that we’re not the only ones to think that.

But, Shefford is not the only town North of Hitchin that is increasing in popularity. Other small towns and villages in the area are also seeing a marked increase within the property market. In Bedfordshire, for example, people are beginning to feel that they will get better value for money, in a slightly less competitive market, these include:

  • Shillington
  • Clifton
  • Henlow
  • Meppershall
  • Lower Stondon
  • Arlesey
  • Fairfield
  • Stotfold
